Australia’s Yarra Valley, located just outside of Melbourne, is known for its rolling hills, the winding Yarra river, and for various vineyards scattered throughout the area.
But equally important is the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, just an hour outside of Melbourne. They specialize in over 250 different chocolate products, with giant bowls of white, milk, and dark chocolate in ‘help-yourself’ stations.
There’s a full cafe in the back of their tasting room, with a full ice cream bar and a menu packed so full of chocolate it will make you melt. Naturally, my friends and I loaded up.
The chocolaterie itself is nestled on a sweeping lawn with an orchid and a nearby wetland refuge, giving you the ability to play lawn games or explore the grounds to burn off some of that sugar.
We definitely didn’t waste any time in feeling that sugar high and goofing off.
The Chocolaterie is perfect for an afternoon trip just outside the city. If you’re wanting to make a day of it, Alowyn Gardens, a sprawling display of symmetrical hedges and flowering wisteria, and Balgownie Estate, a vineyard resort and spa, are both nearby.
